Mulberry is a plant that is used to feed silkworms. Mulberry leaves nutrients help in production of quality silk through feeding the silk worm. Mulberry is most given to silkworm when it’s still fresh so that it gets all its natural nutrients and sericulture is the backbone of all this. Sericulture is the rearing of silkworms for silk which is the most expensive fabrics in the whole world.
In terms of employment, an acre of sericulture industry value chain offers a minimum of six job opportunities. for example, there those to work in the mulberry, silk rearing, post cocoon technology, silk fabric and marketing of silk fabric, TROPICAL INSTITUTE FOR DEVELOPMENT INNOVATIONS (TRIDI) has managed to employ people to work in different stations.
Mulberry fruits can be used to make wine that can be consumed by the world if its properly well marketed, and that’s what TRIDI is working upon, it wants to see that their wine is at the top.
Mulberry leaves can still be fed by animals most especially cattle, if cattle are given, it will really bring out good quality milk for home consumption and selling to get income.
It can as well be used to make lipstick for women, in fact women deserve this lipstick because it’s from natural products, which won’t be of harm to anyone. The applied chemistry students are working hand in hand with their tutors to make sure that at the end of this year TRIDI has produced that lipstick.

So everyone is encouraged to involve him/her in sericulture because it’s not a one man’s business but it’s for everyone. No one should depend on the other when sericulture is here, everyone should be able to depend on themselves for the betterment of our future.
