National Agro-Skills Competition

WHAT ARE AGRO-SKILLS COMPETITIONS?

Put simply, a skills competition provides an opportunity for individuals (or teams) to compete against one another to demonstrate their talent in a particular vocational skill, using tasks derived from real life, industry-based scenarios. Each individual’s work is scored by experts to agreed criteria, and the highest score(s) go through to the next stage. WorldSkills Uganda is bringing together young TVET students and recent graduates involved in agro-processing and post-harvest handling (agro-machinery) to compete first at regional level, and the winners to participate at national level. Skills competitions provide employees, colleges, and independent trainers with a proven method of achieving real results for young people.

The agro-skills competition will involve TVET finalists and recent graduates from several TVET institutions trained and prepared by the industry and academia to compete in producing the test items. These competitions aim at raising the standards of excellence in Agro-based technical skills necessary to support Commercial Agriculture through competitions and generate greater public awareness, appreciation and interest in Agro-based technical education in society. The competition is designed by Agro-industry professionals, and assess an individual’s knowledge, practical skills and employability attributes against set criteria in a competitive timed environment.
