In sericulture, the silkworms are reared for the extraction and production of silk. There are various benefits from the rearing of silkworms but the most common one that one can look at here is the money that farmers get by practicing this type of farming. This money benefits both the farmers, those employed in the mulberry gardens, those helping in the rearing of these worms and the government also benefits by collecting revenue.

One should not forget that Silk fibers are also key ingredients in making silk clothes and remember silk is one of the most expensive fabrics in the whole world, therefore this means that its clothes are very fine and comfortable to wear.

Apart from clothes and money, we can also obtain oil from the dead pupa and this oil is very good in manufacturing soaps.
It should be noted that for one to get the best silk production, the silkworms should be fed on the healthy mulberry leaves.

Silk is very expensive due to the fact that it’s rare and it’s cost of production is very high. One needs more than 2500 silkworms to get one pound of silk and 5000 silkworms to get just one kilogram of silk.
