Tropical Institute of Development Innovations (TRIDI), has started to construct infrastructural and technical capacity for silkworm egg production in Uganda.
As a country, Uganda is at the moment not producing commercial silkworm eggs, TRIDI has therefore started building infrastructural capacity, for silkworm egg production in the country

A 100KV Back Up Generator being offloaded at TRIDI
For Uganda to get real profit from Sericulture, in terms of profit and job creation, there is dire need to conduct research across entire value chain from stage 1 to 9 because quality cocoons are a prerequisite for profitable sericulture enterprise.
According to experts from TRIDI, the right facility needed is an intelligent Silkworm egg production facility .
It is a unit assembled based on putting together different equipment facilities so as to have a complete set for the production of silkworm eggs.
Silkworm seed breeding and breeding is the first important stage of silkworm breeding because, it creates an ideal environmental conditions for the development of silkworm eggs and implements the environmental parameters related to silkworm seed development in the breeding room.
The automatically adjusted computer intelligent measurement, monitoring and control system performs automatic loop detection of environmental variables such as temperatures, humidity, sensitivity, temperature difference, airflow etc.
This aids silkworm eggs to invigorate and protect silkworm eggs and automatically analyze and compare according to the best incubation process curve required for the development of silkworm eggs thereby implementing intelligent control.
Furthermore, there are three rooms in the breeding room for silkworm eggs including 1 control room and 2 breeding rooms. One control Room is equipped with intelligent power distribution cabinets, consoles and computers.

Some of the equipment and facilities being offloaded at Fiber and Textile Center, Namasumbi
The equipment and facilities imported will be used for building silkworm egg production and incubation system and will be located at the Fiber and Textile Center, Namasumbi, a sericulture research Centre, established by TRIDI, the lead implementer of the sericulture project, under the supervision of Clet Wandui Masiga (PhD), the project Principal Investigator.
