On February 24th ,Tropical Institute of Development Innovations(TRIDI) Concluded a one -day training course for the selected silkworm rearing team as the Institute gets ready to embrace another cycle of silkworm rearing.

This event which was held at TRIDI’s Head office in Kyabakadde, Mukono aimed at ensuring better silk production in the country, through enhancement and improvement of inhouse production levels

As a keynote speaker during the event, Mrs.Slyvia Masiga, Human Resource Director, TRIDI appealed to the team to embrace teamwork.
“As a station leader, embrace team work, when you are the head, you need team work, work towards success, do not be in a comfort zone, let’s be intentional about achievements. Rearing is a core part of the value chain of the organization which makes it very vital. Let the training be impactful enough, build ability and skills to be a better person. “She emphasized.

Mr.Emma Walimbwa ,Head Of Capacity Building TRIDI encourages the trainees to be game changers and look beyond the salary and embrace team work to win together as a family. He advised the team to know their roles, be clear about their objectives and work towards the same goal.
Silkworm rearing is very interesting however, one could also experience a few challenges like diseases as a farmer but, these can still be avoided if one is cautious. Just like in any other type of farming, silkworm rearing needs to be handled with a lot of care for one to get the best production, this therefore, makes hygiene a vital in every stage of silkworm rearing

One of the major reasons for crop losses in cocoon production is the diseases of silkworms. Proper disinfection of rearing house, its surroundings and appliances and maintenance of hygiene are important to prevent diseases. Diseased silkworms extrude pathogens into the rearing environment that become the source of infection. Destruction of disease causing pathogens is called disinfection
Mr.Godfrey Kansiime, Rearing Manager TRIDI, based at Rubaare Sericulture Station Sheema District who has over 20 years experience in Silk Production spelled out three key requirements in quality Cocoon outputs and these are; availability of good Mulberry leaves, well trained workers and good hygiene in the rearing house.He explained more in the audio Embeded below,Tune in
There are various models of silkworm rearing and key among them are Japanese and Chinese Model,According to Ms.Daisy Namwano,putting in mind the different models at play, the key determinant in cocoon output remains good hygiene and the hatching process which is a very delicate stage in the Sericulture Value chain.She Explains more in the audio Embedded Below.Listen in
