Description

Fashion and garment design is a highly practical course that involves creating, innovating, and improving designs to suit the preferences and tastes of people worldwide.

Modularization of the Program:

The program emphasizes skills development and competencies in every module, allowing learners to leave at any stage with employable skills. Candidates will draft, cut, and construct various garments, producing new outfits. Additional competencies include starting and managing sewing workshops and making profits. The program is divided into six modules, with life skills and vocational mathematics being compulsory for those completing the entire course.


Program Learning Outcomes

By the end of the program, learners should be able to:

  1. Create garment pattern templates and grade patterns to required sizes and specifications.
  2. Construct new garment designs, repair garments, and make alterations.
  3. Produce designed fabric surfaces with patterns.
  4. Clean apparel products using modern techniques.
  5. Make jewelry and ornamental pieces.
  6. Produce woven/knitted fabrics.

Program Objectives

  1. Impart knowledge of clothing, communication, and fashion expression.
  2. Create awareness about clothing culture.
  3. Equip students with practical and theoretical knowledge about fashion and design.
  4. Teach students about different fiber yarn and fabric properties.
  5. Enable students to understand fabric structure and analysis.
  6. Develop understanding of different garment terminologies.
  7. Teach about different textiles materials used in developing products.
  8. Understand current fashion scenarios and movements on local and international levels.
  9. Provide knowledge about the design process followed by designers.
  10. Develop skills for creating inspirations and mood boards relevant to seasons or themes.

Fashion and Garment Design Activities

Examining Bodies

  1. Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB):

    • National assessment body for credible national examinations and awarding Certificates and Diplomas.
    • Modular system eases workload for students and tutors, with certificates for each module.
  2. Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT):

    • Quality assurance for Business, Technical, Vocational Education, and Training (BTVET).
    • Examination levels: Level One, Level Two, and Level Three.

Admission Requirements

  1. UBTEB Admission:

    • Minimum pass in three subjects at Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) Examination or its equivalent.
  2. DIT Admission:

    • Primary training with a PLE certificate or its equivalent.

Fees for the Program

  1. Tuition:

    • Ugandans / East Africans / Refugees: UGX 420,000 per semester.
    • International Students: UGX 800,000 (USD 223) per semester.
  2. Examination Fees:

    • Fixed by UBTEB and DIT.
  3. Accommodation/Hostel/Meals:

    • UGX 480,000 per semester. Private accommodations are also available.
