Strong governance is what turns development ambitions into accountable action. At the Tropical Institute of Development Innovations (TRIDI), this principle was at the centre of the organisation’s quarterly Board meeting held on 25 September 2026.

Chaired by Queen Mother Rotzettie Keronega, the meeting brought together members of the Board and management to review progress, assess implementation priorities and strengthen the governance systems guiding TRIDI’s work.

More than a routine review of organisational business, the meeting provided an opportunity to examine what is being delivered, where challenges remain and what needs to happen next to translate TRIDI’s programmes into sustainable development outcomes.

Strengthening delivery under SIYEP

A key focus of the meeting was the Sustainable Inclusive Youth Employment Pathways (SIYEP) Programme, where the Board received an update on implementation progress, achievements, emerging challenges and the next steps required to strengthen delivery and impact.

The review comes as TRIDI continues working with partners and training institutions to expand pathways for young people to acquire practical skills, build competencies and connect those skills to opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.

For the Board, the focus was therefore not only on what has been implemented, but also on the effectiveness and sustainability of the interventions and the actions required to strengthen programme delivery.

Building the systems behind Uganda’s sericulture value chain

The Board also reviewed progress under TRIDI’s Sericulture Project, with discussions covering implementation on the ground, infrastructure requirements, technical capacity and human-resource needs.

Particular attention was placed on building the skills and systems required across the sericulture value chain, from production and processing to the technical capacities needed to support its growth.

This reflects TRIDI’s broader approach to development: investing not only in individual interventions, but also in the institutional, technical and human capacities required to make those interventions sustainable.

Reinforcing accountability through stronger governance

The meeting also advanced TRIDI’s internal governance agenda. Each Board member received copies of the TRIDI Board Charter and the organisation’s Memorandum of Understanding and Articles of Association for detailed review and consideration.

The documents provide an important foundation for clarifying governance responsibilities, strengthening oversight and ensuring that the organisation’s leadership structures remain aligned with its mandate and strategic direction.

Effective governance matters because programmes can only deliver lasting value when they are supported by clear responsibilities, accountable leadership and informed oversight.

From oversight to outcomes

The quarterly meeting ultimately reinforced a central priority for TRIDI: moving from activities to measurable and sustainable outcomes.

As the organisation continues implementing programmes in skills development, sericulture, research, extension and innovation, the Board’s oversight provides an important platform for reviewing progress, confronting challenges and aligning organisational resources with development priorities.

Commenting on the meeting, TRIDI Executive Director Dr. Clet Wandui Masiga appreciated the Board Chairperson and members for their guidance, commitment and continued support to the organisation.

“Their oversight and engagement remain important as we work to translate our programmes into sustainable development outcomes,” Dr. Masiga said.

TRIDI remains committed to innovation, partnerships, accountable leadership and practical solutions that improve livelihoods and create opportunities for communities.

The message from the quarterly Board meeting is clear: development is not measured only by what an organisation does, but by the systems it builds, the people it equips and the lasting outcomes it helps create.
