FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE NEWSROOM

WHAT DOES A GOOD TVET INSTRUCTOR NEED TO KNOW?

Nakawa Vocational Training Institute | 4 August 2026

On 4 August, COU Family TV’s NewsAt8 carried a story on TRIDI’s work at Nakawa Vocational Training Institute.

Its framing was clear:

“SIYEP EQUIPS STUDENTS, TUTORS WITH INDUSTRY-RELEVANT COMPETENCIES.”

Another lower-third described the partnership as promoting:

“practical training, gender inclusivity.”

THE BIG IDEA

A good instructor today needs more than subject knowledge.

They need to understand:

  • market requirements;
  • competency-based assessment;
  • gender-responsive teaching;
  • safeguarding;
  • disability inclusion;
  • practical demonstration;
  • evidence of learning;
  • how technology changes the workplace.

THE QUESTION FOR EVERY TRAINER

“If the market changed tomorrow, would my training change with it?”

That is the challenge TRIDI’s SIYEP model is trying to address.
