THE JUNE ROLLOUT WAS ABOUT MORE THAN ENROLMENT.
Imagine entering eight TVET institutions across Elgon, Teso and Karamoja with one objective, Build the people and systems that will make quality skilling possible. 161 tutors trained, 607 young women reached, 504 profiled/enrolled.
The institutions included Mbale Municipality Community Polytechnic, Bududa Vocational Academy, UTC Elgon, Bukedea Technical Institute, Kapchorwa Technical Institute, St. Kizito Technical Institute Madera, Nakapiripirit Technical Institute and Kotido Technical Institute.
But the rollout went deeper; Tutors received manuals and Assessment and Training Packages, Trade-specific test items and scoring approaches were introduced, Gender-responsive pedagogy, safeguarding and disability inclusion were integrated,Young women received SRH and menstrual hygiene support, Scholarship committees were established, Digital profiling through Kobo Toolbox was introduced And MoUs were signed with four institutions.
WHY THIS MATTERS
A programme cannot become sustainable if everything depends on an external team arriving to deliver training.
The goal is to strengthen the institution itself; Train the trainer, strengthen the system, Equip the institution, Support the learner.
The feedback from Bukedea trainers was important. It reminded the programme that quality implementation requires not only materials, but also enough time to absorb and apply them.
