A CLASSROOM IS NOT ENOUGH.
At NUYDC, the SIYEP team brought together technical training with the support systems that make participation possible. 16 instructors trained, 113 young women profiled/enrolled, 212 young women reached with SRH and menstrual hygiene support, 2 staff trained on KoboToolbox, 1 scholarship committee established.
The programme also worked on gender, safeguarding, disability inclusion, life skills, financial literacy and digital training, And there was something particularly important, the programme listened.
Participants and trainers identified gaps in manuals, scholarship forms, equipment, competition communication, childcare spaces and judging. Those issues were not hidden, They were recorded for action. That is what honest programme learning looks like.
“What did not work?” is sometimes the most useful question in development. Because if the answer is known, the next intervention can be better.
